How to Lock Out Access to SBI Online Banking: Step-by-Step Guide


The State Bank of India (SBI) is the largest bank in the country. It offers several banking products and services such as savings account, credit cards, term deposits, personal loan, home loan, business loan, debit card and more. Amid the coronavirus lockdown, mobile banking has become a new normal, especially for people in urban areas. Now, with just a few clicks, you can pay bills, transfer funds, open an account and do many other activities.

However, as you know, no payment method is secure. So, to prevent internet banking fraud, the State Bank of India (SBI) has introduced a feature whereby a customer can lock their access to online banking.

If you also want to lock down your access to SBI online banking, you can follow these steps. But keep in mind that the feature can only be used by retail users, not corporate users.

How to Lock Out SBI Internet Banking Access

SBI customers can follow these steps to lock down their access to SBI Internet banking services.

Step 1: First, visit the SBI official website –

2nd step: On the home page, click Lock and unlock the user.

Step 3: A new window will appear, from the drop-down menu, select Lock user access.

Step 4: Then enter your Username, account number and Captcha code.

Step 5: Once the required information is entered, a new pop-up window will appear on your screen. Here’s what the pop-up will say:

a) You can lock your internet access if you believe there is unauthorized access / transaction pending on your account.
b) Scheduled transactions and user-defined standing instructions, if any, will continue to be active and will be executed as usual and there will be no changes to these processes.
c) By clicking on OK, your Internet access will be locked and you will no longer be able to carry out Internet banking transactions.


Step 6: Read the general conditions and click on OKAY, if you agree with the conditions mentioned above.

Step 7: A ANP (one-time password) will be sent to your registered mobile number and e-mail id.

Step 8: Enter the ANP correctly to lock your online banking access.

That’s it, your internet banking access will be locked. Later, if you want to unlock the online banking service, you can do it online or through the bank branch. There is no charge to unlock your home branch’s online banking facility.
