The number of registered online banking customers fell 7.88%, from 1,106,270 in 2019 to 1,019,073 in 2020, the 2020 annual payment systems oversight report said.
However, registered mobile banking customers increased by 12.30%, from 4,245,479 in 2019 to 4,767,719 in 2020.
The report further states that the value of Internet banking transactions increased significantly by 101.50% to reach 24.21 billion yen in 2020, compared to the position of 12.01 billion yen in 2019.
The value of Mobile Banking transactions, however, stood at 12.94 billion yen in 2020, compared to 6.69 billion yen in 2019 and showed a growth of 93.51%.
ATMs deployed by banks increase by 5.37%
Meanwhile, the number of ATMs deployed by banks at the end of December 2020 of 2,237 showed an increase of 5.37% from the 2019 position of 2,123.
The number of Point of Sale terminals also increased by 19.17%, from 8,802 at the end of December 2019 to 10,489 in December 2020.
Likewise, the total number of debit cards issued by banks in December 2020 was 4,813,063 and showed an increase of 8.70% from 4,427,848 cards in December 2019.
The international system of 3,168,608 cards constituted 65.83% of the total debit cards issued compared to the proprietary bank cards of 1,644,455 which made up 34.17% of the total debit cards issued. The international scheme and the banks’ proprietary cards increased by 11.53% and 3.63% respectively.
Also, the number of credit cards issued at the end of December 2020 increased by 13.73%, from 29,050 cards in December 2019 to 33,039 cards in 2020.
The increase in credit cards issued was due to additional banks authorized by the Bank of Ghana to issue credit cards. All credit cards issued were international cards.
Likewise, the total number of prepaid cards issued increased by 53.98%, from 372,586 in 2019 to 573,703 at the end of December 2020.
