How to activate the SBI debit card via Internet Banking (OnlineSBI)

To activate an SBI debit card using this process, customers must be registered for Internet banking. If you have already registered, follow these steps.

  • Visit SBI online banking and log in using your online banking username and password.
  • Select e-services and go to ATM card services, where you will find the option to generate ATM PIN code. Click on it.
  • You will be asked to log in using your profile or OTP password for authentication.
  • Select the account number to which the debit card is linked.
  • Select the debit card for which you want to create a new PIN code. You can also change the existing PIN code.
  • Enter the first two digits of the PIN code as desired. Once done, the last two digits of the PIN code will be sent to the registered cell phone number.
  • Now check the PIN code by entering the four digits. Confirm the change.
  • You have now set a new PIN code for your debit card and the card is now ready for use.

How to activate the SBI debit card via a toll-free number

SBI customers can generate a new PIN code for their new debit card or change the PIN code for their existing card by calling the toll-free number. However, they can only create PIN codes if their mobile number is linked to the bank account. If you have linked your phone number to your SBI account, follow these steps to generate a new PIN code and activate your SBI debit card.

  • Call one of these two free numbers from your registered mobile number – 1800 425 3800, 1800 1122 11.
  • Press 1 to generate a PIN code.
  • Enter the last five digits of your debit card and the last five digits of the account number as shown.
  • You will receive a one-time use PIN (OTP) code on your registered mobile phone number.
  • This OTP will be valid for two days.
  • Go to any State Bank ATM and select the Change PIN code option.
  • Enter the current OTP.
  • Enter a new PIN code and confirm.

How to activate the SBI debit card by SMS

Just like the last process, for this one too, the customer must have their mobile number linked to their bank account.

  • SMS PINCCCCAAAA at 567676 from your registered mobile number. Here, CCCC = the last four digits of the debit card and AAAA = the last four digits of the account number.
  • If the last found digits of the debit card and the last four digits of the account number match the records, you will receive an SMS from SBI containing an OTP.
  • This OTP will be valid for two days.
  • Go to any State Bank ATM and select the Change PIN code option.
  • Enter the current OTP, then set a new PIN code.

How to activate the SBI debit card through an ATM

Those who do not wish to use internet banking, texting or toll free numbers can instantly generate a new PIN for their SBI debit cards at any State Bank of India ATM. Here are the steps you need to follow to generate a new PIN and activate your debit card at a State Bank of India ATM.

  • Insert your debit card at any State Bank of India ATM
  • Select ‘PIN code generation’
  • Enter your 11-digit account number and confirm
  • Now enter your 10-digit mobile number registered with the bank and confirm
  • You will receive an OTP
  • You can now insert the card again and select the option ‘Change PIN code’
  • Enter the OTP to authenticate yourself and define a new PIN code according to your choice
