Tottenham boss Antonio Conte: I’m not a checkbook manager, don’t make me laugh!

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte insists he doesn’t need a blank checkbook to claim the tag team title.

The 52-year-old, who has enjoyed success at Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan, said Romelu Lukaku is the only player he has asked to sign.

“It makes me laugh,” Conte said in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport. “Let me tell you, in my career I have always made money, not spent.

“I have often worked with young people to train, athletes depreciated or to rebuild, players who had never won until then.

“All the players who have reassessed, thanks to my work. In my career, I have only asked for one player who has been paid a lot. ”

He insists he has all the facilities to do his job with the club’s state-of-the-art stadium and training facility, but says there is a gap on the club’s player side.

“Tottenham have the best club structures in the world,” he added.

“The team must be up to the task. Today, there is a gap between the investments made by the company and the sports results: it must be bridged. ”
